1. The introduction 2. The ideas of European integration until 1918 3. The ideas of supranational integration during the interwar period 4. The after-war integration, the role of the USA in European structures, the division of Germany, Truman´s doctrine, OEEC, NATO, Brussel´s Treaty, Council of Europe 5. 50s and 60s: ECCS, EDC, WEU, The entrance of FRG NATO, EEC, EURATOM, EFRA, Charles de Gaulle, Fouchet´s plan, empty chair policy, the compromise of Luxembourg, veto on UK´s joining the EC 6. 70s and 80s: reforms and crisis of the EC; enlargement, EMU, European Council, Eurosclerosis, SEA, Schenghen 7. From Maastricht to Nice 8. Discussion on European Constitution 9. The enlargement process and its consequences 10. European Integration outside of the EU: EEA, WEU, Council of Europe, OSCE 11. Learning outcomes
|
The course will deal with the history of the processes of the integration on the European territory as well as the history of the idea of European integration since the Middle Age till present. The political development of the European Communities and the European Union since the 50s till present will be accentuated. The course is destined to students of bachelor study. It is a prerequisite for the further study of European Integration and its actual questions in the following master degree.
Students will get acquainted with the following academic knowledge: - Orientation in the discussion on the role of the EU in international organizations - Basic knowledge for further qualification in European issues - Knowledge of economic, political, historical and legal background of European integration - Deepening of knowledge of relation between European integration and globalization - Preparation for activities in European issues - Experience in autonomous scientific work
