Course content
|
1) Basis of political science, its formation, the subject of study, the issue of its status and importance in the social sciences and society. 2) Political ideology - the nature and function of ideology, the characteristics of key political ideologies (conservatism, liberalism, socialism) 3) State - the origin, nature, function and features states classification - Republic x monarchy, simple x composite, secular x theocratic 4) The Constitution and the constitutionality - resources and the development of modern constitutionalism, characteristics, structure, function and classification of constitution, the principles of constitutionalism in a democratic state 5) Division of powers in a democratic state - vertical ( centralization x decentralization of power), the horizontal ( parliamentary x presidential political system) 6) Democracy - Democracy research in political science (theory, models, authors), the definition and basic characteristics of democracy, the typology of democracy - direct democracy x indirect, majority x consensus etc ., problems of formation and development of democracy in Europe and the world 7) Totalitarianism and other undemocratic regimes - the definition and characteristics of totalitarianism of the 20th century, the issue of other types of non-democratic political regimes and their research in political science 8) Political parties - their characteristics, functions, organization, classification, party systems, typology of party systems (Monopartisms, Bipartisms, Multipartisms) 9) Interest organizations and pressure groups - their nature and functions, types of interest groups and pressure groups in politics 10) Elections and electoral systems - the nature and function of elections, electoral process, electoral law, the basic characteristics of electoral systems (proportional, majority, mixed)

Learning outcomes
|
The course is designed as a summary, aims to introduce students to the key thematic areas and issues of interest of political science.
Student will become familiar with an introduction to political science, is aware of the meaning, importance and object of study of this discipline. He/ she is familiar with the basic political science literature, understands the characteristics of work and interpretation of political reality.
