Depends on the teacher. Term seminar on the philosophy of Karl Popper is given as an example. 1. Popper and philosophy: his life and work in the context of that time. 2 to 3 Popper's philosophy of empirical science: the main ideas of The Logic of Scientific Discovery, the point of view at Popper's later work. 4. Popper's philosophy of social science. Introduction. 5. The Poverty of Historicism I: anti-naturalistic thesis of historicism. 6. The Poverty of Historicism II: pro-naturalistic thesis of historicism. 7 to 8 The Poverty of Historicism III: Popper's critique of historicism, partial social engineering. 9. Poverty of Historicism IV. 10 to 12 The Open Society and Its Enemies: the critique of essentialism, the role of institutions, the theory of democracy, the relationship between Popper's philosophy of social science and his philosophy of science. 13 to 14 Popper's influence (Hayek, Berlin, Lakatos, Feyerabend etc.) and a controversy over his work (Levinson, Wild, Frankfurt School, etc.).

The topic of the choice of the teacher. Term seminar on the philosophy of Karl Popper is given as an example. Seminar is focused on one of the greatest figures of 20th-century philosophy. Students actively prepare for the seminar based on homework and selected key points are discussed in detail.
Student is able to prepare a 45 minute lecture/lesson on any of the discussed topics and study individually less sophisticated primary and secondary literature. |
