Learning outcomes
|
Seminar reading of Jan Patočka's lecture course "Socrates" from 1946 (in an abridged version avilable in the stag). In Czech.
This is a skills-oriented course, which in addition provides a certain knowledge bonus. Students gain confidence to read somewhat difficult texts, learn to formulate their thoughts, to express themselves clearly, to listen to others with understanding. While summarizing the content of the previous class, students take a step towards philosophical writing. At the same time, they get well acquainted with Patočka's interpretation of Socrates, which is an important component of Patočka's conception of philosophy in general and of its life-relevance (and appears to function motivationally as well).

Assessment methods and criteria

To obtain the credits, a student is required to actively participate in the seminar, to do the reading regularly and to provide one or two summaries of the previous class (lasting 4 to 7 minutes).
