Course content
Lecture topics: (2 hours/week) 1. Pedagogy as a science. 2. Historical development of pedagogy. 3. Theory of education. 4. Goals and purposeful intentionality of education. 5. Taxonomy of goals. 6. Pedagogical principles. 7. Forms and methods of educational action. Seminar topics: (2 hours/week) Introduction to special education (introduction to the subject, diagnostics in special education - examples of tests). 2. speech therapy - introduction to the subject, classification and etiology of speech defects. Speech therapy - specifics of upbringing and education of individuals with communication disorders. 3. Surdopedia - introduction to the subject, classification and etiology of hearing impairment. Surdopedia - specifics of education and training of individuals with hearing impairment. 4. Tyflopedia - introduction to the subject, classification and etiology of visual impairment. Tyflopedia - specifics of education and training of individuals with visual impairment. Deafblindness. 5. Psychopediatry - introduction to the subject, classification and aetiology of intellectual disability. Psychopediatry - specifics of education and training of individuals with intellectual disabilities. 6. Ethnopaedics - introduction to the subject, classification and aetiology of behavioural disorders. 7. Somatopedics - introduction to the subject, classification and aetiology of physical disabilities and impairments.

Learning outcomes
The course is conceived as a theoretical and practical unit, which is aimed at acquiring basic knowledge of pedagogy as a science that examines the nature, structure and laws of education and training as a deliberate, purposeful and systematic activity shaping the human personality in various spheres of social life. Students will learn the fundamentals of didactics and its application to the educational influence of the pediatric nurse on children of all ages, their families and communities, and participants in qualifying and continuing education. The course includes selected chapters from special pedagogy, which deal with the laws of development, care, upbringing and education of children with some kind of disability or disadvantage, their socialization, starting from their birth. The subject is an examination of the nature and laws of the upbringing and education of individuals with special needs. The student will gain the knowledge to alleviate or eliminate social disorders by influencing the defects that cause them, while acquiring the skills to work with children with special needs.
Expertise: Within the theoretical knowledge, students demonstrate the ability to characterize the individual fields of pedagogy and special pedagogy, to use professional terminology related to the given issue, the ability to describe basic educational and educational procedures for individual types of disabilities. Professional skills: Students will be able to design modifications of the environment, didactic aids, toys and rules of children's play for given types of disabilities. Students can apply theoretical knowledge to practice. General competencies: The student is able to navigate the current legislation related to the education of individuals with different types of disabilities, is able to recommend compensatory aids, is able to apply the acquired knowledge and skills to other subjects.
