Lecture topics: 1. Definition and characteristics of nursing science. 2. Philosophy in nursing. 3. Holistic philosophy of nursing. 4. Metaparadigma of nursing. 5. Historical development of nursing in the world. 6. Professionalization of nursing mission. 7. Legislative basis for medical profession. 8. Regulation, self-regulation of profession. 9. National and international professional organizations. 10. Conceptual models and theory of nursing. 11. Humanistic models of nursing. 12. Models of interpersonal relationships in nursing. Classification systems in nursing. Seminar topics: 1. Forms and methods of nursing care. 2. The beginnings of nursing care in the Czech lands. 3. Important personalities of Czech nursing. 4. Important personalities of world nursing. 5. Professionalization of nursing profession in the Czech lands. 6. Role, function, competence of nurse. 7. Image sisters. 8. Humanistic organizations. 9. Nursing model of Virginia Henderson. 10. Nursing model of Marjory Gordon. 11. Application of the NANDA classification system. 12. Application of classification system NIC, NOC in nursing.

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a theoretical basis for the study program General Nursing. Systemically defines nursing as a modern scientific discipline with its own philosophy, value system, subject of research, theoretical models, standard terminology, classification systems and methodologies. Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to understand nursing as a science, to understand its development, history, the current concept of Czech nursing, education, nursing practice and legislation, so that students understand the relationships of health - illness - nursing - environment.
Expertise: The student demonstrates broad knowledge of the nature of nursing as a science based on holistic philosophy. He is able to describe the relationship between health - illness - nursing and environment. The student demonstrates knowledge in the concept of modern nursing and the concept of nursing in the Czech Republic, its development and legislative bases. Professional skills: Students can use basic nursing models and classification systems in the environment of Czech nursing practice. Student is able to use classification systems in Czech nursing practice.
