Learning outcomes
|
The subject is designed as theoretical. Clarifies basic sociological concepts, theories and research. It leads to a comprehensive and versatile view of phenomena and processes in society in relation to medicine and nursing. Students will get to know the basic categories of sociology, the sociological perspectives of health and illness and their analysis, the methods and techniques of sociological research and the possibilities of their use during study and in professional practice. Students will gain knowledge about social relationships in the family and professional group.
Expertise: Student is familiar with what preceded the emergence of sociology, is able to characterize basic sociological directions and can define the meaning of the socialization process. Student has an overview and can characterize basic sociological theories (such as the theory of social groups, social stratification, deviant behavior, role theory), thereby better understanding selected aspects of human behavior. Student understands the importance of the sociology in medicine, including the main focus of this subdiscipline (perception of illness, impact of illness on the life of the individual and family, models of relationships in medicine). Students can describe all phases of sociological research and is familiar with the basic methods of collecting sociological data, which they can characterize. Professional skills: Student can classify selected sociological theories into the main sociological directions. Based on the real situation, student is able to assign relationships between health professionals and patients to individual theoretical models, including a practical evaluation of the positive and negative consequences of applying these models in a specific situation. Student is able to prepare his own simple research investigation, including choosing appropriate data collection method and simple research instrument. General qualifications: Student is able to clearly and convincingly communicate his own professional opinions to experts and to the wider public.

Assessment methods and criteria

Active participation in lectures, written test. During the test, students will answer pre-prepared questions in their own words, for which they will be scored. The minimum threshold for meeting the conditions for successful completion of the subject is 50% success rate.
