Course content
Lecture topics: (2 hours / week) 1. Introduction to the field of ENT, history, definition of the field, examination and imaging methods, surgical procedures in pediatric ENT, the specifics of the pediatric patient in ENT. 2. Basics of anatomy; physiology; pathology: Oral cavity, Pharynx, Salivary glands, Esophagus 3. Basics of anatomy; physiology; pathology: Nose, larynx, external neck 4. Basics of anatomy; physiology; pathology: Ear, Basics of phoniatrics and audiology 5. Traumatology in ENT, Acute conditions in ENT

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a theoretical and practical unit and focuses on the specifics of disorders, defects and diseases in the ears, nose and throat in children of all ages. It acquaints students with the peculiarities of assessing the needs of children with this group of problems so that they are able to provide quality nursing care in a multidisciplinary team.
Expertise: The student will gain a basic overview of ear, throat and nose diseases, where anatomy, physiology, diagnostic-therapeutic process and nursing process in pediatric patients are intertwined. The scope of teaching is only general and is a guide for students to further study the issue. Professional skills: The student will get acquainted with the issues of work at the Department of ENT and head and neck surgery of Masaryk Hospital o. Z., KZ a.s. in the field of children, students are able to describe examination and imaging methods, assessment of the patient's condition in the perioperative period in patients of childhood, learn the principles of preoperative, interoperative and postoperative care of patients. incl. differences, approach with regard to the age category of the patient, master specific skills in the outpatient and inpatient units and the principles of aseptic work, the student manages the education of pediatric patients the most common clinical diseases occurring in the field of ENT and acute conditions. General competences: The student is able to clearly and convincingly communicate to experts and the general public their own professional opinions.
