Course content
Lecture topics: 1st consultation: Burns. Reconstructive and plastic surgery. Polytrauma. Spinal injuries. Surgical diseases of the head, neck and chest. 2nd consultation: Surgery of the abdomen NPB, Hernia. Abdominal Surgery Diseases of the esophagus, stomach and small intestine. Exercise topics: 3rd consultation: Abdominal Surgery Diseases of the gallbladder and biliary tract, liver, spleen and pancreas. Abdominal Surgery Diseases of the large intestine and rectum. Self-study: Nursing process in patients with burns. Specifics of care for children with burns. Nursing process in patient with spine injury. Nursing process in patient with head injury. Nursing process in a patient with a sudden abdominal event (ileus, peritonitis, appendicitis, hernia). Nursing process about surgical patient - senior.

Learning outcomes
This subject is a theoretical-practical unit. It is a part of a complex of subjects from clinical nursing. It introduces clinical conditions and diseases in surgical fields in terms of nursing care and needs of patients changed in connection with surgical disease. It characterizes clinical conditions, their etiology, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.
Expertise: The student demonstrates knowledge in the field of surgery, he/she knows the types of anesthesia, demonstrates knowledge of the principles of diagnosis and treatment of selected surgical diseases. It demonstrates knowledge of basic nursing diagnoses resulting from biopsychosocial needs of patients. It plans appropriate nursing interventions with regard to the set goals of care. Gain skills in the implementation of specific nursing activities. Professional skills: The student can practically prepare the patient for surgical examination, surgery. Can identify postoperative complications and knows their solutions.

Requirement for granting the credit is at least 85% participation in lessons, active approach and interest for the field, credit test. Oral exam.
