Course content
Framework scope of practice: - Establishing a nursing care plan for a patient with a specific medical diagnosis - Administration of oxygen and airway medications - Administration of drugs per os - Application of drugs to the skin, rectum, conjunctival sac - Application of drugs s.c. - Application of drugs i.m. - Assisting with dressings - Assisting with i.v. medication administration, including infusions - Assisting with peripheral venous catheter treatment - Education of paediatric patients - Positioning of immobile patients - Verticalization of patients - Rehabilitation care of the paediatric patient at the bedside - Respiratory rehabilitation, including training in expectoration - Training in the use of compensatory aids - Activities related to the prevention of decubitus - Pain monitoring in paediatric patients using standardised measurement techniques - Assisting in the implementation of activities related to the discharge of a paediatric patient from hospitalisation or transfer to another unit within the hospital, cooperation with the family - Activities related to the care of the dying paediatric patient - Activities related to the care of the dead body - Receipt, control and storage of medicines (excluding addictive substances) - Receipt, control and storage of medical devices and linen - Disinfection of medical devices and preparation for sterilisation

Learning outcomes
The practice is based on the WHO conceptual model of the main determinants of health and is oriented towards the area of health promotion and disease prevention, training and acquisition of nursing, diagnostic and therapeutic activities in the health care provider's health care facility, within the framework of providing outpatient and inpatient care. Students will learn about the types of health care in inpatient and outpatient care and the different forms of nursing care. They will learn to assess the environment in which patients live, the risks to their health, the types of diseases that occur in that environment, the need for preventive measures and learn to use individual and group health education methods. They will learn basic nursing skills in individual paediatric wards (internal and surgical) within inpatient care. They will also learn about the structure of inpatient healthcare provision and the specialist departments. They will learn to assess the environment to meet the needs of the individual, and improve their assessment of individual health status and patient needs in terms of nursing care.
Expertise: The student demonstrates knowledge of nursing practice and nursing theory that can be applied in practice through nursing plans and nursing interventions. The list of departments accredited by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic, with which the Faculty of Health Studies has a contractual relationship, is given in Table B-IV. Professional skills: The student is able to implement nursing care using the nursing process method, is able to work with medical documentation and is a valid member of the health care team. General competencies: The student is able to apply theoretical knowledge and manual skills in natural settings, and is able to communicate with the client and members of the health care team.
