Course content
Seminar topics: 1st consultation: Basic concepts (survey/ research, basic research/ applied research, qualitative / quantitative, experiment / research). Types of clinical trials and studies. NursingOvid database, citation database available at UJEP. Work with the Medvik database and the e-catalog of the UJEP library 2nd consultation: Introduction to statistical terminology (types of quantities). Questionnaires - standardized questionnaires, pilot survey. Descriptions of categorical and numerical quantities (frequency tables, quantile and moment characteristics, box-fence). Time series and its characteristics. Self-study: Students will be acquainted with selected ethical aspects of research, namely the issue of informed consent, copyright law and citation standards through study support and the use of specialized literature. They will also learn the principles of publishing (explanation of search terms, ISBN and ISSN, peer review, impact factor). Students watch information videos about research carried out in laboratories at Faculty of Health studies.

Learning outcomes
The subject covers the issue of scientific work from the definition of the problem, the choice of an adequate method and the creation of questionnaires to selected options of statistical description of the information obtained. The aim of the course is first of all to provide students with practical instructions how to process the bachelor thesis, including to give to students information about the possibility to participate in research realized at the faculty.
Expertise: The student knows the principles of scientific work in all its phases, from planning through execution to publishing the results, knows the corresponding terminology, and also knows the related ethical and citation standards. Professional skills: Student is able to acquire, electronically record and use elementary statistical methods to process data.
