Course content
1. Basic principles and history of database systems progress. 2. Basic conceptions. 3. Database systems architecture. 4. Conceptual data modeling (ER model). 5. Relational data model. 6. Conceptual model to relational model transformation. 7. Database desing. 8. Normalization of relational model. 9. Database languages - SQL basics. 10. Principles of objective-relational desing. 11. Transactional database systems.

Learning outcomes
Aim of this course is to gain basic theoretical knowledge of database systems design oriented to relational systems. Design of models combines three ways of data processing: conceptual modelling (ER model), database modelling (relational model using normal forms) and object-relational modelling (object oriented concept).
