1. Introductory lecture on military history of the 19 and 20 centuries. 2. Development of armaments in the 19 century 3. Napoleonic Wars 4. The war in 1866 5. Austro-Hungarian army from 1867 to 1914 6. First World War and "new" weapons 7. Czechs on the battlefields of the First World War 8. Czechoslovak Army in the years 1918-1939 9. World War II 10. Czechoslovak foreign and home resistance in the years 1939-1945 11. Impact of war conflict on civilians 12. Development of military sphere from 1945 to the end of the 20 century 13. Excursion to the Army Museum in Žižkov

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the issue of military history in the 19 and 20 centuries. Emphasis is placed on the conflicts that occurred in Europe and affected the Czech lands. The course involves presentation of changing style of warfare in this period, as well as political implications of selected conflicts and their impact on civilian population.
Students will gain a basic overview of modern military history. During the lessons they will be acquainted with selected war conflicts that influenced the history of the Czech lands. Course participants will get information about literature and available sources for military history of the 19th and 20th centuries.
