Course content
Subject circles of the individual lectures: 1. Gothic art in Europe as a cultural and historical phenomenon 2. The position of North-Bohemian Gothic sculpture in the context of Bohemian and (Central-)European artistic development during the Gothic period 3. New interpretations of the earliest sculptural works in North Bohemia 4. North-Bohemian Gothic sculpture dating to the 1st half of the 14th century under the reign of the Luxemburgs 5. North-Bohemian Gothic sculpture dating to the high stage of Gothic art in Bohemia 6. Gothic sculpture in North Bohemia in the "post-Beautiful Style" period 7. The influence of North-European (mainly Italian) sculpture around the mid-15th century on North-Bohemian Gothic sculpture 8. North-Bohemian Gothic sculpture under the influence of Italian artistic production in the latter half of the 15th century 9. The influence of Franconia on the formation of Gothic sculpture in North Bohemia 10. North-Bohemian Gothic sculpture from the aspect of the most recent research carried out in the framework of projects and grants 11. ?14. Practice-oriented field trips to selected permanent exhibitions of Gothic art in the framework of North-Bohemian galleries and museums

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to introduce students to current issues in researching Gothic sculpture in North Bohemia in the context of both Bohemian and (Central-)European development of Gothic art. The students are presented with numerous outputs (professional essays, publications?) of concrete up-to-date researches realized in the most recent period in the area of Gothic sculpture in North Bohemia. This mainly concerns updating earlier art-historical interpretations in the light of new research.
The graduates from the course are well-orientated in the current issues of researching Gothic sculpture in North Bohemia in the context of European development. They are informed about the artistic potential of the given region in cultural and historical context. They also display knowledge of current art-historical literature, mainly the one which is directly related to the region, as well as of scientific activities focused on the current issues of researching regional Gothic art.
Prerequisites
Graduation from the course is conditioned by graduating from the subject Bohemian History of Middle Ages and by knowledge of the basics of iconography.
