Topics of the seminars: The topics include basic developments, ways of construction and terminology 1. Urbanism - basic urban types in the cultural countryside of Bohemia and Moravia. City buildings 2. Disposition - function parts, tracts, floors and communication scheme; terminology, types, use and development 3. Stone walls - types, techniques of construction, terminology, use, development. 4. Clay constructions and unfired bricks - types, techniques of construction, terminology, use, development 5. Brick constructions - types, techniques of construction, terminology, use, development 6. Log constructions - types, techniques of construction, terminology, use, development, dendro-chronology 7. Frame and timber constructions - types, techniques of construction, terminology, use, development. 8. Vaults I: Romanesque and Gothic style - types, techniques of construction, terminology, use, development 9. Vaults II: Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism, Historicism - types, techniques of construction, terminology, use, development 10. Ceilings - types, techniques of construction, terminology, use, development 11. Plasters - types, use, terminology, techniques of plastering, development 12. Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to explain the students typology and development of historical constructions, stressing the terminology of architecture and building elements. The seminar has the form of lectures, controlled discussion and expert excursions.
The student can manage technical terminology of historical constructions and elements, know the basic historical development of constructions and components, can use them as defining signs of the construction development of buildings.
