Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the basic historical development of cultural history and art history as a subject. We will introduce important persons and their work from the time of Ancient history till the 20th century. The students will also learn about scientific literature, mainly handbooks and encyclopaedias which can help them in later individual work. The students must learn the basics of scientific terminology (conservation of monuments, cultural history, art). They will also learn some other skills, e.g. from the iconographic analysis, historical geography, historical topography, etc.
The student has wider knowledge of the field of cultural history which helps him in his further direction in study subjects of Historic sights documentation, cultural history, history or aesthetics. He is able to apply the knowledge in other subjects as well, mainly in history of visual art, but also in other purely historical or aesthetical subjects. The student manages the chronological overview of the development of the subject. He is able to speak about the most important personalities and their specifications, interpret the basic ideological structures. Further he can manage the scientific terminology and can use it in practice as well as some other skills (basic iconographic identification of the art work, style categorization of the monument, etc.).
