Learning outcomes
Specialization block is a teaching programme oriented at professional preparation of history teachers. The subject uses various methods and procedures. To simulate school reality we use records of school classes. In cooperation with the film festival Jeden svět we organize projections of documentary movies with a visit of a guest - a participant or master in given issue. The listeners also learn about manuals which will enable them to work individually with film material in school surrounding. The students make use of their knowledge and skills not only for fulfilling seminar tasks, but also for their master's thesis and in pedagogical training. The concept of discipline wants to offer the students more forms of pedagogical training. The aim is to create a learning surrounding which would simulate the atmosphere of school reality and enable thus the students to get the practical knowledge and experience from teaching at school. We have great amount of video and DVD recording of history lessons which were taught at basic and secondary schools. This collection is being supplemented continuously; very often the students themselves help with this - they find and contact teachers whose pedagogical qualities they could see during their study at secondary school, sometimes they even record the class themselves. In the new subject all these records are used for projection and following analysis and evaluation with active cooperation of the students. At the same time this is inspiration for creating individual student projects of teaching topics which are realized in the subject of Specialization Block but also reach into other didactic seminars and then right into the pedagogic training. Students are also visiting basic and secondary school, where they sit on the history class, consequently they analyze it, evaluate it and consult this with the tutors. Another programme of the Specialization Block is the cooperation with organization Člověk v tísni (mainly because of the project Jeden svět at schools). The common cooperation lies in organization and realization of a set of lectures and seminars with a presentation of documentary films, discussions with professionals, foreign missions participants, direct observers or contemporaries, following reflexion, analysis and evaluation of the issue.
The Specialization course is for students of the 1st year of Masters Degree, who have already finished the courses of Modern Czech and World History. They should know the issue, be able to analyze and evaluate single problems. The goal of the seminars is not only to widen a deepen the information and knowledge on historic events and problems of the present day world. The students will be lead to realization that a documentary or some words of the guest of the programme are for them also a "training material" for preparation for their future profession. They learn to formulate questions, to think critically about the problems, use logical arguments, push their opinion and dispute with other, to be open and tolerant to varying opinions and statements. The students have at disposal not only the documentaries but also other things prepared by the authors of Jeden svět at schools prepared for them: manuals, methodical books which have not only the synopsis of the films but also offers how to work with the film, references to various information and suggestions of possible questions and tasks. They also introduce recommended backing activities, suggest simulation games, worksheet and other materials.
