Learning outcomes
|
The course aims to provide students with information on the spatial definition and physical-geographical conditioning of certain historical processes and phenomena. The emphasis is not only on the typology of sources, but also on the methods of historical geography. Students should then reflect on the interdisciplinary nature of historical geography and its overlap with other historical and auxiliary historical sciences (historical demography, archaeology, history of settlement, history of law, economic history, cartography). The aim of the course is also to provide students with a geographical context within the framework of the knowledge acquired so far in other courses. The course will focus mainly on the historical geography of the Czech lands from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. It will then selectively cover the wider Central Europe and the world. In terms of the teaching concept, the lectures will focus on the theoretical basis and the subsequent seminars on the concrete use of sources and the possibilities of their interpretation.
The student will understand the basic methodological procedures of historical geography. The student wil be able to state the relationship geography. The student will be able to state the relationsthip between historical geography and other sciences whose outputs and methods are used by historical geography. The student is able to categorize the basic sources of historical geography. The student can interpret cartographic sources from different periods. Using the source base, the student can evaluate historical geographic development at the regional level. The student can characterize the development of the cultural landscape of the Czech lands from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The student is familiar with historical topography.

The prerequisite for the course is a basic orientation in Czech history.

Assessment methods and criteria
|

Active participation in the attendance part of the course is required, as well as the creation and presentation of a seminar paper related to the historical-geographical development of the selected settlement. In addition, students must pass a final test.
