Learning outcomes
|
A lecture on the relations of Czech society in the 19th and 20th centuries to the Habsburg-Lorraine family and its selected members. Its aim is to discrupt the existing and historical stereotypes proving that the Czech nation always suffered under the Habsburgs. It wants to explain to the audience that both sides of this relationship interacted and influenced each other?s behaviour and decision-making. In the sexond half of the 19th century, Czech society under the Habsburg-Lorraine dynasty underwent a turbulent development, as a result of which it became one of the modern European nations. The aim of the lecture is to explain the motives of selected decisions of Emperors Franz Joseph I and Charles I and to whow the transformation of the Czech nation?s relationship to this ruling family - from unconditional loyalty to open hostility.
The student will gain knowledge about the coexistence of Czech society and the Habsburgs in the past, (s)he will be conviced that it was not a mere skirmish, but that the joint interaction in the past enriched both sides
