Course content
|
The content is connected in a similar way to the work in the course Latin for Historians I in the winter semester / see textual expression/. The expanding and deepening approach is thus a direct continuation and connection to the previous one. Optional possible corrections are based on the verification of real study results. According to this, the speed of further progress is chosen, including the repetition of important basics. Naturally, the effort remains to include additional elements and components of the subject study that have so far received little or insufficient attention. For successful achievement of results, it is essential to always start from the entirety of interrelated assumptions, from their continuous verification.

Learning outcomes
|
In the following semester of Latin for historians, there is a deepened continuation of the previous one. The course proceeds according to textbook presentations, while the share of work with selected coherent texts of various kinds and origins increases. These are excerpts from sources. Selections are made with regard to the practical needs of the historian's work, also considering the specific focus and interests of the students. The aim is to achieve a connection between the necessary level of theoretical knowledge while utilizing a broader disciplinary base along with mastering practical activities and procedures in working with Latin texts and sources.
The student will acquire the prerequisites for translating medium difficulty Latin texts and their interpretation. A necessary condition is the ability to have a good orientation in Latin grammar and practical skills for working with Latin texts and tools, dictionaries, etc. This also requires the ability to search for and use appropriate electronic resources available on the web. All of this will enable them to successfully cope with texts of greater difficulty in the future.

Prerequisites
|
The starting assumption is an elementary knowledge of Latin corresponding to the level of the basic Latin course in undergraduate studies. Also, successful completion of the course Latin for Historians I from the winter semester.

Assessment methods and criteria
|

The student will demonstrate, similarly to the introductory semester, an increased ability to achieve the necessary skills for independent work with Latin texts. This primarily focuses on the Latin language in the broader sense during the post-classical period. The foundation remains a solid orientation in normative Latin grammar and established procedures for working with Latin texts. In addition to the linguistic and grammatical aspect, selective focus on various manifestations of Latin language culture and Latin literature can be expected. The semester concludes with an exam to verify the level of achieved results.
