Course content
Topics of the lectures: 1. Definitions of numismatics, basic literature, relations with other fields 2. The development of scientific numismatics from the 18th to the 21st century 3. Global development from antiquity to the present 4. Sources of numismatics 5. Mining of precious metals (mining regions in the Czech lands), coin production, socio-economic aspects of extraction of precious metals 6. Pre-mintage means of payment, Celtic coinage, Roman coins in our territory, Great Moravian period 7. The denarius period of Czech numismatics (10th - 12th centuries) - the coin as a mean of payment and as an expression of the duke's representation; the organization of coinage and the bracteate currency in the 13th centur 8. Wenceslas II coin Reform and Prague groschen, the development of the late Middle Ages 9. Economic Development and coin in the Early Modern Period I. (Tolar currency period) 10. Economic development and coins in early modern times II. (Conventional currency period) 11. Excursion 12. Work with sources of the accounting nature of the pre-modern period, the coin and its reflection in the pre-modern society 13. Taxes and financial administration from the Middle Ages to the 18th Century, development of the tax 14. Period of Austrian and Crown currencies

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the students to numismatics as one of the auxiliary historical sciences, to position numismatics among other historical sciences and to stress its sources, methods and goals. In the practical part the students will learn the basic and extended literature, the history of money starting with primitive mediums of exchange to the legal tender of today and how the domestic and foreign numismatic departments function. The students also learn the traditional and modern methods in elaborating the numismatic material (mainly the newly found) and the possibilities and limits of its source value.
The student can find his way in the subject, knows the development of numismatics, terminology and literature, can characterize single periods of the development of the Bohemian and Moravian numismatics in the context of other countries. In practice he can basically describe and define the numismatic material.
