Course content
Topics of seminars: 1. Use of IT in history subject (statistics, database, digitalization, genealogic programmes and work with them) 2. - 3. How to use IT in education of history (history software, testing software, copyright, Internet). 4. Genealogy programmes 5. - 6. Creating a presentation, electronic presentation (meaning and purpose of the presentation, tools, rules, types of presentation. 7. Internet presentation (the topic of history on the internet, basics and possibilities of creating a web presentation. 8. Pictorial material on the internet (web galleries, virtual tour of a gallery, museum, etc.) 9. - 11. Editing of a digital, pictorial, audio and video material (sources, programmes for editing of sound, practical editing) 12. Work with the Office pack - text editors - types, possibilities, readers, electronic libraries) 13. "History in sheets" (use of the database, programmes similar to MS Excel) 14. Presentation of final papers of the students

Learning outcomes
The course of Basics of IT will focus on the topics from information technology which can be of good use to a professional historian or a history teacher. We will introduce a wide scope of programmes which can be used in the subject of history (genealogical software, audio-editing, video-editing, etc.). In the scope of programme tools our attention will be concentrated on free programmes, licences and freeware. Another important field is orientation at school history - the teachers should learn methods of electronic presentation (basic presentation programmes, simple web presentation). Last in our course will be the work with database programmes (the basic tool will be the spreadsheet).
After finishing the course the student can: - create various types of electronic presentation based on respecting the formal, pedagogically-psychological and expert requirements for its creation - use the chosen programme tools for editing audio-material of historical character (statement of contemporaries) - elaborate a genealogy scheme with use of some of the genealogic programmes - create a simple, effective and transparent database from a chosen historical source of statistics.
Prerequisites
At least some basic knowledge of computer and its programmes (e.g. Office pack).

Elaboration of tasks during the semester, their presentation in the course: electronic and web presentations, editing of audio-material of historical origin (statements of contemporaries), elaboration of a genealogy scheme with use of some of the genealogy programmes; creating a useful database on the basis of a chosen historical source.
