Course content
1. Overview of the topic - historiography, overview of departments, typology, problems of division, problems of terminology, etc. 2. Metallurgy - smelters, foundries, machine shops 3. Mines, quarries and their reclamation 4. Chemical factories - from bleach to petrochemicals 5. Food industry I - sugar rafineries, distilleries, soda factories, etd. 6. Food industry II - breweries, malting plants and hop processing 7. Lime kilns, brickworks, concrete plants, sawmills, etd. 8. Mills and water works 9. Textile factories, glassworks, porcelain factories 10. Transport and technical infrastructure monuments 11. Presentation of papers 12. Excursion I - Lake Milada and its surroundings 3. Excursion II - Krupka

Learning outcomes
This course focuses on the specifics of research into technical monuments and industrial heritage in general. Students are acquainted with the basic of methodological procedures of research and historiography, the possibilitites and limits of surveys of tecnical monuments, and starting points for their future development. The course will include field trips with practical demonstrations. Individual topics will be supplemented with model examples of good and bad conservation practice.
The course provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to handle and care for technical monuments, and the possibilitites of their presentation. Graduates of the course are informed about the importance of technical monuments and their role in cultural heritage. They are able to describe the specifics of their research and the critical evaluation of sources. The student understands the specifics of research and the documentation of technical monuments, their evaluation and presentation.
