Learning outcomes
The course focuses on the development of ice hockey in Czechoslovakia in the period after the Second World War until the end of the 1970s. It emphasizes the influence of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in Czechoslovak sport in an attempt to use it as a means of influencing public opinion and attitudes, whether it be the course of the Czechoslovak Hockey League or international events. The course includes the presentation of practical examples of how ice hockey was influenced by the ruling establishment, not only with regard to the trial of the hockey players in 1950 or the events that took place in Czechoslovakia after the 1969 World Championship in Stockholm.
Students are oriented in the history of Czechoslovak ice hockey from the end of the Second World War until the end of the 1970s. They are able to describe its ups and downs and apply the sport to the political situation in the country. At the same time, they are able to derive a greater amount of information from sports tables that is applicable to research. They are also familiar with the literature focused on the period under study. They are able to present and discuss the knowledge gained through the text.
