1) Introduction to the issue: sources, current research, research methods, typology of journeys 2) Late medieval roots of travel 3) A new era of travel in the 16th century, changes in the 17th and 18th centuries 4) Political, diplomatic, military and trade journeys of the inhabitants of the Czech state in the early modern period 5) Domestic and foreign journeys undertaken for religious reasons 6) Academic peregrination and cavalier journeys 7) Excursion journeys or how modern tourism is born 8) Artistic and proto-scientific journeys 9) Health journeys of the birth of early modern spas 10) Everyday life on the road and its risks 11) Journeys to Euroean peripheral areas and traveling beyond the European horizon 12) The Czech lands trough the eyes of foreign travellers in the 16th-18th century

Learning outcomes
|
The course is devoted to selected aspects of the history of travel in the 16th-18th century (see the topics below). Its aim is to deepen the knowledge of bachelor's and follow-up students on this issue. The subjekt accopanied by PowerPoint presentations will also include the interpretation of relevant period iconographic, written and other sources in relation to both some general topics and individual selected model examples.
By completing the course the students will gain knowledge about the phenomenom of travel in 13.-18. century, but also insight into the broader context of European cultural, social and political history. At the same time, the students will acquire competencies to work with older and recent professional literature and archival documents, which relate to the issue of travel of various kinds and its development in the High and Late Middle Ages and early modern times. An important output of the course is also that the student is able to compare the acquired specific knowledge of the Habsburg monarchy with the general development of the observed phenomenon in pre-modern Europe.
