Relationship of the Czechs to the land is mainly marked by forced collectivization, which affected profoundly once prosperous farmers. Farmer used to be a free man, he often farmed using modern technologies, supported development of cooperatives and rich social life. Situations changed fundamentally during the Nazi occupation and in communist Czechoslovakia, when this whole social class was threatened by elimination.
