Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with history and significance of Biedermeier not only as an artistic style of the first half of the 19th century, but also as an ideology.
Students will learn about artistic legacy of the Biedermeier period, but also about the complex social situation in the first half of the 19th century. They will be able to distinguish main protagonists of this period especially in literature and painting. At the same time they will get basic knowledge of philosophical and ideological streams. They will be able to perceive differences between Biedermeier and other styles of the 19th century (eg. Romanticism).
Prerequisites
It is assumed that the student is familiar with the history of the Czech lands and the history of art of the 18th and 19th centuries.. Completion of the History of the Czech Modern Age is an advantage.
