Course content
The combined form of teaching includes the following topics in individual teaching blocks: 1. Professional text, ethics of scientific work, bibliography, citations, sources, EIZ 2. Historical method, biographical method, cultural history 3. Memory studies, microhistory 4. Gender analysis, structural method, discursive analysis, narrative, philological method, modernism and postmodernism 5. Popularization, popular culture, communication in science As part of their independent study, students deal with topics covered in the required reading and, in particular, in the course support materials, as well as tasks assigned during the classroom portion of the course and based on ongoing consultations with the instructor conducted electronically.

Learning outcomes
The aim is to familiarize students with the principles of writing academic texts, their structure and types, and to learn the rules of scientific ethics. To master working with bibliographies, citations, and sources, including historical methods. To understand specific historical methods. To gain an overview of current trends in historical research, its methodological diversity, and possibilities for professional application in academic and popular environments.
The student will gain a clear knowlege of the subject and the ability to work idependently on a minor historical topic based on the study of literature and sources, demonstrated by the submission of a seminar paper.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam: conditional on completion of Introduction to the Study of History I and approval of the seminar paper, discussion of the seminar paper and related questions from the topics covered in both semesters' lectures Seminar paper: preparation of a seminar paper demonstrating the ability to apply historical methods (and others), including the interpretation of two (unpublished or published) historical sources in the context of the latest research. Submission to Moodle as a file (MS Word/OpenOffice) of 10 standard pages with 1.5 line spacing, where a standard page = 1,800 characters (including spaces and notes). The text should therefore be 18,000 characters (including spaces and footnotes), font size 12 (serif). The text must be aligned to the block. The footnotes must directly or indirectly cite at least 2 sources (including contemporary periodicals), 5 specialist books (with scientific apparatus), 1 popular science book, 2 studies from anthologies, 1 journal study from WoS or Scopus, and 1 journal study from JSTOR. Upon agreement with the teacher, some items may be replaced by others. Structure: introduction, main body (may be divided into several chapters), conclusion, list of sources. The introduction must: 1) define the research questions (objectives), 2) evaluate, comment on, and describe the methods used, classify the text into a methodological "school," and refer to methodological "models," 3) evaluate, comment on, and describe the sources, 4) evaluate, comment on, and describe the key professional literature, 5) comment on the structure of the work. The list of sources (divided into A) sources, B) professional texts, and footnotes with abbreviated citations must be in accordance with the conventions of the ČČH.
