Introduction to the issue of the style of so called Saxon Renaissance 2. Albrecht Dürer 3. Lucas Cranach the Elder 4. Selected Czech artists and works, Dürer and Cranachś followers 5. Visit to National Gallery - Sternberg Palace 6. Typology of sculptures of so called Saxon Renaissance 7. Tombstones and epitaphs 8. Fonts and pulpits 9. Visit to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Most 10. Introduction to architectural style of the Saxon Renaissance - history of research 11. Benedikt Ried and Arnold of Westphalia 12. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Benešov n. Pl., the church of St. Jacob the Greater in Svádov 13. The church of St. Wenceslas in Valtířov, the church of St. Anna in Krupka 14. Excursion to the church of St. Florian in Krasne Brezno

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic issues of art and architectural production in style of so called Saxon Renaissance with special regard to the region of North Western Bohemia. Shown on selected examples of works of art, artists and historical buildings.
Graduates can define the notion of Saxon Renaissance, they can put it in the context of art and building history of the region and of Bohemia. They are also able to define characteristic features of relevant works.

Requirements: regular attendance, participation in at least two excursions and production of a written paper with an analysis of one selected artwork from the studied subject.
