Course content
1. Methods of historical geography 2. Practical use of sources in a historian's practice 3. Historical geography of the Czech state and the of Central Europe 4. Selected chapters from European and global historical geography 5. The development of the cultural landscape of the Czech lands During the self-study, students will be guided by the processing of topics specified in lectures, especially the historical-geographical problems of the Czech lands, Europe and the world. Furthermore, it is necessary to process tasks assigned in the presence part or in the framework of continuous communication with the teacher realized through the moodle communication forum.

Learning outcomes

Students understand elementary methodological processes of historical geography. They can describe the relation between historical geography and other disciplines the outcomes and methods of which have hitherto been employed by historical geography. They can categorize the basic sources of historical geography and interpret map materials dating to various periods. Using a source basis, they can evaluate historical and geographic development on the level of a region and characterize this development in the Czech lands from Middle Ages to the 20th century. They are also familiar with the historical development of cultural landscape.

Students are required to actively participate in education in the form of fulfilling continuously assigned tasks and to submit in a written form successful solutions to six tasks based on the discussed subjects.
