Topics of the lectures (each topic will be discussed in two teaching units: 1. Urbanistic environment of the culture 2. Conservation areas in cities and in the countryside in the context of creative culture 3. Cultural nature of the landscape, identity and landscape dominants, religious buildings and monuments 4. Historical parks and gardens 5. The influence of the city environment on the use and economy of cultural monuments 6. The problem of rural areas and periphery in the development of Czech culture.

Learning outcomes
|
The subject of Historical urbanism offers basic orientation in the development of urbanism, explains the methods of urbanistic creating, teaches them to seek and describe the values of urban space and brings the student the knowledge of historical and modern development of cities, as well as the theory of urbanism. The accent is on interrelation with economical, social and cultural history.
The student can characterize main historical periods of urbanistic development, understands the turning points and their historical, economic, social, cultural and artistic connections. The student can independently think about urbanism as a manifestation of material culture, knows the principles of evaluation the urbanistic work in various periods of time. The student is able to tell the values of the seen urbanistic structure and its elements and to design the basic principles of its conservation. The student can understand the basics of the theory of urbanism and is able to expand the knowledge gained in self-study.

Assessment methods and criteria

Self-study of recommended literature, contextual study in the subject field, elaboration of a short written report which shows the level of mastering of knowledge and abilities. Attendance to the urbanistic excursion. The students will write a small urbanistic study of the given locality (settlement) in the extent of 10 standard pages. The elaborated study will show their ability to work with the terminology and to develop their own urbanistic thinking.
