Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to synoptically introduce students to the development of history of fine arts from the beginning of Italian Renaissance to the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. Emphasis is laid on overall historical context, selected artistic personalities and individual significant places and cultural centres. The course is an inseparable part of the system of lecturing history of fine arts on the bachelor?s study level, which - in the case of the fields Documentation of Historical Monuments and Cultural History - closes with final state examination. Students follow up with the acquired knowledge in the continuing courses of art history and will use them in their future practice depending on their specific professional assignment. The students of the subject Documentation of Historical Monuments can mainly employ the acquired knowledge for the sake of enriching their knowledge acquired by attending the subject History of Architecture. The students of the subject Cultural History can view the graduation of the art-historical courses as one of the main pillars of their bachelor?s studies.
The graduates from the course demonstrate basal knowledge of cultural and historical developments during the periods of Renaissance and Mannerism. They can synoptically characterize the cultural development in the significant regions and the developments of the particular artistic trends. They are familiar with selected works of art and architecture dating to the given period and are capable of identifying and precisely dating them and classifying them in the framework of the individual artistic styles.
Prerequisites
1. The graduation from the subject does not unconditionally require previous graduation from another discipline. However, it is advantageous if students have successfully graduated from the subjects Art History I and II. 2. It is also beneficial if students can work with foreign-language professional literature (in German and/or English). They are also expected to have historical insight at least on the level of secondary-school curricula in the field of history.

Students are required to participate in the education, to complete studying the recommended literature and, eventually, to issue an assigned independent work in the framework of the subject.
