Course content
1. Prevention regime in the care of the collection items Basic principles of both climate and maintenance regime in depositories and collections of movables held in original spaces (the impacts of light, temperature, humidity, correct manipulation, prevention care and maintenance) 2. Places and areas of pilgrimage as the phenomenon of cultural heritage Characteristics of the most significant pilgrimage places in the North-Bohemian region (e.g., Bohosudov, Kostomlaty pod Milešovkou, Mariánské Radčice, Horní Jiřetín, Květnov), the life of a pilgrimage place, pilgrimage routes, the potential revival of "spiritual tourism" 3. Protection of cultural landscape and protected landscape zones The Malta Convention (the European Convention on Landscape) and the role of protected landscape zones with attention paid to the North-Bohemian specifics, their significance in relation to the UNESCO monuments, characteristics, restoration, reserves, regime 4. Endangered sacral monuments in the disgrace of the present The delicate phenomenon of unused and decaying sacral constructions, the Horní Jiřetín church as a symbol of the local citizens? fight against its liquidation via coal mining 5. Endangered sacral monuments in the disgrace of the present The possibilities of revitalizing the decaying and unused sacral monuments - their alternative use, the problems of adapting liturgical spaces 6. Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is introducing students to the descriptions of the character of damage of the given historical relics and to outline the concepts of their basic conservation and, eventually, restoration interventions which concern selected groups of works of applied arts (especially related to architecture), and also introduce to the regime in depositories and the possibilities of preserving and presenting the omitted segments of the collection of historical monuments.
The completion of the course will contribute to extending the existing knowledge and knowledge about the development of monument care including international conventions on the protection of cultural heritage and on the monument fund, deepening the work with specialist literature, works and sources on history and historical interventions and transformations on the artwork for restoration.The graduate will use the acquired skills and knowledge especially in the sphere of practical care of cultural monuments and collection funds, including the application of knowledge of artistic and cultural history (in regional conditions) in relation to the restoration processes of monuments. They will also acquainted with written and documentation material related to the restoration proces - restoration including principles of formulation of the basic concept of the recovery procedure (definition of inviolable values of the work, additions, reventive maintenance, etc.)
