In the framework of introducing to the Bohemian history and the history of the Czech lands, the lectures focus on the period from the arrival of the Slavs to the local territory, the establishment of the first state units, the constitution of the Bohemian medieval state of the Premyslids and the period of its upswing under the reign of the last Premyslids and Luxemburgs to the Hussite revolution, as well as on the crucial moments of Bohemian history from the Hussite wars and the Podiebrad and Jagiellonian periods to the rise of the Habsburg Central-European statehood, while the development of the latter is commented up to the Thirty Years?s War. Apart from providing basic historical overview, especially the seminars will serve to discuss special problematic subjects and emphasis will also be laid on working with documents dating to the related periods.
The graduates are orientated in the main issues of the Bohemian Middle Ages and the beginnings of the early modern times both from the point of methodology and heuristics. They are familiar with the relevant terminology, basic literature and edition sources related to the given period. They are capable of interpreting the main types of sources and critically evaluating the corresponding literature as well as viewing the development of the earlier Bohemian history in overall European context.
