The aim of the course is to provide students of history with a basic overview of artistic culture from prehistoric times to the end of the Middle Ages. The course is designed as a contextual extension of the knowledge that students acquire in basic theoretical courses, measured against political, religious, and economic history. The course primarily emphasizes issues in the visual arts and architecture, but issues in spiritual culture, literature, theater, and music are also represented. The lectures of the course are designed in connection with the content of the lectures on the history of prehistory, antiquity and the Czech and general Middle Ages. The student applies the knowledge acquired in the course not only in his/her own research work, but also in the framework of the SSZ courses.
The graduate demonstrates an overview knowledge of the artistic culture of the most important ancient civilizations and medieval Europe. The student demonstrates a deeper knowledge of the development of artistic culture in the territory of the present-day Czech Republic since the establishment of Great Moravia. The student is able to identify and interpret the most important artistic expressions from prehistoric times to the end of the Middle Ages. In addition to this, he has a basic knowledge of the terminology of the field, some partial knowledge of mythology, religious studies, iconography, etc. He has an overview of the basic titles of mainly domestic literature. |
