Course content
|
The teaching of the course in the combined form summarizes the following topics by individual teaching blocks: 1.Periodization of Czech medieval history in the context of general development and their role in the philosophy of Czech history, basic literature and sources on the history of the Czech Middle Ages 2.Czech lands from the arrival of the Slavs to the Slavs 3. The so-called Great Moravian Empire and the significance of the Cyril and Methodius mission 4. The formation of the Czech medieval state and the question of the so-called Boleslav Empire 5. The early medieval Czech state in the 11th-12th centuries, the formation of medieval society 6. The Czech state on the threshold of the High Middle Ages and the change of its position in the context of the Roman Empire 7. "The Great Change" - the urbanisation of the Bohemian lands and the development of High Medieval society 8. The last Přemyslids and their (Central) European ambitions 9. The first Luxemburgs on the Czech throne and the emergence of the Crown of the Kingdom of Bohemia 10. Charles IV as King and Emperor of Bohemia 11. Prerequisites for the emergence of the Hussite movement 12. The Hussite Revolution between ideology and social movement (basic periodisation and historiographical views) 13. The Kingdom of the Dual People (Czech lands in the post-Hussite era) 14. The Nobleman on the Throne (George of Poděbrady) The lecturer is in contact with the students through direct contact teaching, tutorials, online consultations and email communication.

Learning outcomes
|
In the course of the Czech earlier history A students gain a basic overview of the essential topics of Czech medieval history, which are designed with regard to the current awareness of high school graduates entering historical study programs, so that a larger number of students can handle the demanding study without reducing the difficulty of the study. The lectures are designed chronologically and give students an overview of the knowledge needed to understand the period under study and to acquire the ability to work with related historical sources with understanding.
Learners acquire knowledge (chronology, terminology, facts), are able to classify and categorize them, and remember them. They are able to understand them and interpret the written sources presented in this sense. They are able to understand the concepts of the study of medieval Czech history. They are able to search for, classify and collate information, they know the basic recommended literature, which they read with understanding.

Assessment methods and criteria
|

In a seminar assignment on a given topic, the student will demonstrate the ability to work with specialist literature and to interpret a historical source in a contemporary context with knowledge of specialist terminology, topographical context, etc. The student is able to present the topic, respond to questions and argue professionally. The method of assessment is to analyse the submitted assignment and provide feedback to the learner; the learner receives credit based on the successful completion of the assignment. Requirements for learners: - Regular preparation for the seminar in the form of reading assigned articles and studies related to the topic under discussion. - paper and PowerPoint presentation on the chosen topic (MS Office) - active participation in seminars - maximum two absences, a third absence is possible, but only by prior agreement
