Course content
|
The teaching of the course in combined form sumarize the following topics in individual teaching blocks: 1. Europe at the turn of antiquity and the Middle Ages 2. The foundations of church history in the Middle Ages 3. Medieval culture and education 4. Major milestones and problems in medieval history 5. Foundations of social and economic development of human society in the Middle Ages Within the framework of self-study, students deal with the topics included in the required literature and especially in the course outline, tasks assigned in the attendance part of the course or in the Moodle learning system, as well as on the basis of individual consultations with the teacher implemented also through the communication forum in Moodle or other electronic form.

Learning outcomes
|
It is a one-semester course, consisting of a two-hour lecture and a one-hour seminar per week. The lectures are designed to introduce students to the basic topics of medieval studies up to the end of the 15th century and to provide a basic overview of the development of medieval European society and to inform them about the current state of research. The aim of the seminar is to familiarize students with the basic methodological and methodological procedures of medieval studies through work with selected sources and literature. The emphasis is on the interpretive mastery of the text and the heuristics of the field.
Learners acquire knowledge (chronology, terminology, facts), are able to classify and categorize them, and remember them. They are able to understand them and interpret the written sources presented in this sense. They are able to understand the concepts of the study of medieval Czech history. They are able to search for, classify and collate information, they know the basic recommended literature, which they read with understanding.

Assessment methods and criteria

In a seminar assignment on a given topic, the student will demonstrate the ability to work with specialist literature and to interpret a historical source in a contemporary context with knowledge of specialist terminology, topographical context, etc. The student is able to present the topic, respond to questions and argue professionally. The method of assessment is to analyse the submitted assignment and provide feedback to the learner; the learner receives credit based on the successful completion of the assignment. Requirements for learners: - Regular preparation for the seminar in the form of reading assigned articles and studies related to the topic under discussion. - paper and PowerPoint presentation on the chosen topic (MS Office) - active participation in seminars - maximum two absences, a third absence is possible, but only by prior agreement
