Learning outcomes
|
The course called "Weapons , armour and warfare in the Middle Ages" introduces students to historical sources usable for the study of military history and history of militaria, it presents students with different approaches, ways of interpretation and information value of particular types of sources for military history and of militaria. The course provides a a general overview of current research in the discipline of history of militaria, however it also deals with the issues such as courtly culture, military theory and European power conflicts.
Students will gain a basic idea of development and forms of weapons and armour in various historical periods. They will briefly study important military conflicts and their progress. Participants of the course will have general knowledge of literature related to the issue as well as knowledge of types of historical sources suitable for study of militaria , but also chivalrous culture and military theory.
