1. Literary interpretation - knowledge classification and deepening 2. Literary interpretation - interpretation based on text or work (text- und werkimmanente Inperpretation) 3. Literary interpretation - historical origin of literary interpretation, the four sense of the Holy Scripture 4.-5. Court literature and its acceptance in modern literature (minnesang, Uhland, Des Knaben Wunderhorn, etc.) 6.-7. Faust as a symbol of a modern human in different versions of German (possibly European) literature (Volksbuch, Marlowe, Goethe, Grabbe, etc.) 8.-9. Simplicissimus by Grimmelshausen and Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of the Heart by Komenský - parallels and differences 10. Song versus ode - theoretical background and implementation of two dominant currents in lyric poetry of the 18th and 19th century (Goethe and the Romantics versus Klopstock, Schiller, Hölderlin) 11.-12. Challenge to the Aristotle´s conception of drama (Büchner: Woyzek, Dantons Tod, Wedekind: Frühlings Erwachen) 13.-14. Mystical current of German Naturalism (Hauptmann: Bahnwärter Thiel, Stehr: Gudnatz)

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the seminar is to develop and strengthen interpretive skills gained during the Bachelor´s Degree program. The course also emphasizes text analysis, improving the ability to think and research independently. Revision of interpretation theory is included as well. Both formal, cultural and historical approaches will be the focus of this course.
Student " knows and can apply various approaches to interpreting a literary text " is able to use independently literary texts of different genres and epochs " can analyze and interpret texts from different points of view
