In this course, formal aspects of academic academic texts and their argumentative structure will be analyzed. Furthermore, the course focuses on reading academic texts while concentrating on their heuristics, on accessing information sources, and sorting the obtained data. Students will enhance their skills in writing excerpts and composing essays. Special attention will be paid to the texts' logical units (argumentation, thesis, antithesis, etc.). Emphasis is placed primarily on understanding the principles of how academic texts are composed, and on starting the students' own academic writing. An important part is also an introduction to the formats of citing secondary sources and getting acquainted with the consequences of plagiarism.
Students will be able to understand an academic text, will know its formal aspects and structure, will know how to conduct research, will be able to write excerpts and essays, and cite the used sources. They will gain a solid basis for their own academic writing.
