Learning outcomes
The course deepens the knowledge gained in the bachelor and follow-up master study of the student and provides an overview of the most important developmental stages of linguistics from its beginnings to the present. At first, however, it focuses on previous developments in antiquity, the Middle Ages and early modern times. On the one hand, its aim is to stimulate the interest in deepening the study of selected topics from the history of linguistics, and on the other to equip the student with the ability to reflect the basics and conditionality of methodological approaches in linguistic research.
The student has an overview of the most important developmental stages of linguistics from its beginnings to the present and is able to reflect the basics and conditionality of methodological approaches in linguistic research.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written work of the doctoral student based on consultation of the topic with the guarantor or with the authorized teacher on the basis of lectures and self-study of relevant literature serves as the basis for the oral exam. The chosen topic can be freely related to the topic of the dissertation thesis, but it must not be part of it.
