Course content
1. Morphology, morpheme - definition and classification. 2. Inflexion. 3. Classification criteria for parts of speech, differences between grammar books. 4. Verb and verb categories. Classification of verbs - morphological criteria. 5. Classification of verbs - semantic criteria. 6. Classification of verbs - syntactic criteria. 7.-8. Verb tenses. 9.-10. Active voice, passive voice. 11.-12. Mood. 13.-14. Modality.

Learning outcomes
In this course, students become familiar with basic terminology and knowledge related to German morphology. Furthermore, the course aims at presenting to students the particularities of German verbs and verb categories. The knowledge gained in the course will subsequently be applied in text analyses and in grammar exercises.
Students are able to use the terminology related to morphology, describe basic morphological characteristics of the German language and classify parts of speech. They can describe the characteristics of German verbs, identify and form verb forms. They understand the functions of individual verb forms and they can use them in written as well as in oral communication. They are acquainted with the basic literature on morphology.
