Learning outcomes
This course focuses on text structure analysis with respect to formal aspects and content components of academic writing. Students will explore scientific literature in terms of scientific heuristics, use information sources and sort out collected data. They will improve knowledge how to write excerpts, essays and logical composition (argumentation, thesis, antithesis, etc.). The course emphasizes scientific text comprehension and allows them to write their own academic writing. Students will become acquainted with proper ways of quoting the sources and impacts of misquoting.
Student " is able to express and defend own opinion in writing " can adequately use standard, formal and informal language " can use information sources and sort out the collected data " is able to write an extract, own arguments and academic essay, can quote the sources.

Assessment methods and criteria

Students are expected to write an academic essay on a given topic. In this written task should be demonstrated that they have understood scientific text structure, science terms, reasoning skills and a correct way to quote.
