Learning outcomes
|
The course follows the Literary Proseminar 1 and is designed in the same way: the instructor chooses one compulsory text; at the same time, students will bring a text of their choice. In this way, they actively participate in the selection of reading and learn to search for basic information about the genre or literary epoch. The seminars will be conducted in the form of a discussion, during which the texts selected by the students will be discussed as well. The content of the course includes more demanding and longer texts such as short stories, novellas or excerpts from dramas. Discussion will be led so that issues of understanding at the language level, formal characteristics of the text and the possibility of its interpretation on the basic level are clarified. Emphasis will be placed on the ability to express one's opinion, to oppose in the discussion and to persuade with arguments based on information sought and on one's own conclusions.
Students will learn the basic principles of an academic approach to literary texts such as understanding fiction and literarity, the importance of genres and rhetorical figures. They will also learn to discuss, argue and defend their opinion in an informed way.
