Learning outcomes
|
This course will introduce the development of the literature in German-speaking areas from 1720 to 1848, and its main authors and works. We will concentrate on individual periods and the development of individual literary genres (novella, drama, novel, fable etc.). The seminars will introduce the key works from the Enlightenment, the Sturm und Drang period, the Weimar Classicism, German Romanticism, the Biedermeier, and the pre-revolutionary period up to 1848 (Goethe, Schiller, Hölderlin, Heinrich von Kleist, Jean Paul, E.T.A. Hoffmann, Heine, Büchner etc.).
