1. Changes in German vocabulary I - neologism, archaism 2. Changes in German vocabulary II - borrowings of foreign language vocabulary 3. Changes in German vocabulary III - changes of semantic component 4. Word formation I - introduction and basic terminology 5. Word formation II - word formation devices and their classification 6. Word formation III - selected methods, types and models of word formation 7. Word formation IV - ways of forming words (word derivation, word composition) 8. Word formation V - ways of forming words (word conversion, back-formation, so called Rückbildung) 9. Word formation VI - processes of word formation in German and Czech 10. Introduction to phraseology I - subject of study, basic characteristics of phraseologism 11. Introduction to phraseology II - summary classification of phraseologism

Learning outcomes
Students will become acquainted with basic topics, questions and problems of contemporary German lexicology. The course emphasizes problems of the most important changes in German vocabulary, questions of word formation and introduction to phraseology.
Student " knows the basic terminology and can apply it " knows the basic development tendency of German vocabulary " can distinguish word formation devices, productive types, models and ways of word formation " is familiar with basic classification of phraseologism.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit requirements: Active participation in seminars, students must successfully complete required tasks and pass the credit test. Exam requirements: The exam covers topics discussed in both Lexicology seminars. Students are required to prove their theoretical knowledge and ability to apply the gained knowledge while analyzing specific linguistic examples. The exam is in German.
