1. Introduction, setting themes 2. Writing - argumentation (essay) - strategy, language devices, examples 3. Models of communication, taboo and communication. Spoken and written language - monologue versus dialogue - discussion (leading, strategies, language devices, examples) 4. Erörterung I - evaluation (error, error evaluation, error analysis). Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to prepare students for the final exam at the level C1-C2 of the CEFR. That is why the course focuses on practice based on selected teaching materials and consolidation of all four language skills. Topics take into account the area of education, German didactics and interested learners. Grammar and vocabulary will be put into practice using the examples of authentic texts in general and academic language. Quick reading abilities will be strengthen as well as summarizing the texts. Students will become acquainted with argumentative strategies in writing, with reading a paper in speaking and learn at the same time how to lead a discussion.
Student - knows the standards of formal German (written and spoken) and have learned German vocabulary as well as grammar at the output level C1-C2 of the CEFR - is able to fully and directly understand the spoken and written language and respond adequately - can write an essay (Erörterung) on a more complex topic, is able to present a paper to a specialized topic based on own thesis and can lead a discussion.
Prerequisites
Exam in Language Competence II can be taken only if the student has obtained the credits in Language Competence I and II.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit requirements: active participation in seminars (70%), 2 essays, graph (diagram) interpretation and evaluation including presentation in the course and discussion management to a given topic Exam requirements: consists of a written (Erörterung) and a spoken part (report to a pre-selected topic based on own thesis). The oral exam can be taken only after passing the written exam.
