Learning outcomes
The aim of this compulsory elective course is to apply the knowledge of the German language system to authentic texts and to reflect the specific use of grammatical means in these texts. Students will review, consolidate and deepen their existing knowledge of German grammar, which they acquired in the courses Grammar Proseminar 1, Grammar Proseminar 2, Grammar 1, Exercises for Grammar 1 and which, in parallel with the course Grammar in Authentic Texts, are acquired in the course Grammar 2 and Exercises for grammar 2. Current journalistic texts from the German speaking countries will be analyzed, discussed and didacticized. But we will also work with other texts relevant to the analyzed phenomena, including fiction. Depending on the specific text, attention will be paid to the use of verbal tenses, voices, grammatical moods, possibilities of expressing modality, possibilities of expressing indirect speech, use of articles in nouns, declension of adjectives, use of prepositions, possibilities of nominalization and verbalization, word order in subordinate clauses, violation of the frame principle in a clause, information structure, and other topics.
