Course content
1. Nouns and their classification - morphological, syntactic and semantic criteria. 2. Grammatical categories of nouns, declension. 3. The gender of German nouns. 4. Number. 5.-6. The use of articles. 7. Adjectives, their classification - morphological, syntactic and semantic criteria. 8. Declension and comparison of German adjectives. 9. Pronouns. 10. Adverbs. 11. Prepositions. 12. Conjunctions. 13. Particles. 14. Sentence equivalents.

Learning outcomes
In this course, students become familiar with basic terminology and knowledge related to German morphology (except for verbs). Furthermore, the course aims at applying the knowledge gained in the course in text analyses and to practise selected phenomena in grammar exercises.
Students are able to use the terminology related to morphology and describe basic morphological, syntactic and semantic characteristics of the parts of speech in German. They are well-informed about declension as well as comparison, they understand the functions of individual word forms and they can use them in written as well as in oral communication. They are acquainted with the basic literature on morphology.

Assessment methods and criteria

To obtain credit, students must participate in the seminars actively, complete all assigned tasks and pass the final test (70% of the total points must be achieved). The oral examination (approx. 20 minutes) can be taken only by those students who obtain credit in both Morphology I and Morphology II.
