Learning outcomes
The course is particularly determined to students whose topic of dissertation is focused at modelling of space plasma. The course extends and deepens knowledge and skills of students in the following fields of general plasma physics: - Space plasma, fundamental characteristics and properties. - Liouville?s theorem and Boltzmann?s kinetic equation. - Moments of Boltzmann?s equation - conservation laws, fluid approximation. - Coulomb?s collisions, collisional frequency. - Transport coefficients in magnetised plasma. - Set of MHD equations, fluid description of plasma. - Structure of magnetic fields, magnetohydrostatics. - Radiative processes in plasma. - Radiation in optically thin and optically thick approximation. - Waves in plasma and MHD waves. - Plasma instabilities. - Magnetic reconnection and its role in astrophysics, solar flares. - Particle acceleration processes in space plasma, cosmic rays, interaction of plasma and particle beams.
